Nifty snaps 10-day winning streak
The 30-share Sensex lost 12 points to end at 29,559 and the 50-share Nifty climbed 4 points to close at 8,914.
The 30-share Sensex is up 253 points at 29,263 and the 50-share Nifty has gained 68 points at 8,829.
The Sensex ended at a fresh record closing high of 28,889 while Nifty ended at a fresh record closing high of 8,730.
Market breadth was weak with 1,260 advances and 1,597 losers on the BSE.
The government is scheduled to release index of industrial growth for November and consumer price inflation for December later today.
The 30-share Sensex ended 79 points lower at 26,909 and the 50-share Nifty closed 25 points lower at 8,102.

In the broader market, BSE midcap and BSE smallcap indices underperformed the larger counterparts and ended flat with a negative bias.
Shares of ING Vysya Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank rallied by up to 6% on the BSE on reports that Kotak Mahindra Bank in final stages to buy the bank.
Market breadth ended weak on the BSE with 1,838 declines against 1,218 advances.
Financials declined amid profit taking while energy shares fell after the government hiked excise duty on transport fuels.
The market breadth in BSE remains positive with 1,554 shares advancing and 1,196 shares declining.
US stocks rose more than 1% on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 coming less than 2% below its record peak set last month.
